Meet Kristina,
the girl behind the cake

Just like a great cake, The Cake Girl was built from scratch, one layer at a time. From Kristina's first orders on the side to a bakery loved across the country, this is the story of how it all came together.

"Life is short. Eat dessert first."
2008

Humble Beginnings

The Cake Girl started back in 2008. Growing up in Puerto Rico, Kristina learned to bake alongside her hero and mother, Margarita Perez, a professional chef. Hundreds of grocery runs and messy kitchen cleanups later, with no shortcuts ever allowed, she built the foundation for the award-winning recipes The Cake Girl is known for today.

College

A strong foundation at UCF

Kristina headed to the University of Central Florida's Rosen College of Hospitality Management and earned two bachelor's degrees, in Hospitality Management and Food Service & Restaurant Management. She also met her husband Kirby there, a fellow UCF grad, who asked her out and later proposed at the campus Reflection Pond. In 2013 they married at UCF. Go Knights.

On the road

Tents, trucks and Florida festivals

After graduation, Kristina took the business on the road, hauling a tent and her desserts to farmers markets and festivals across the state. Demand grew fast, and the pop-ups turned into a mobile dessert truck driven all over Florida, until even the truck couldn't keep up.

June 2019

The first store

Just like a great recipe, Kristina refined it until it was right. As demand outgrew the truck, she chose Tampa for the first brick-and-mortar bakery. In June 2019 the ribbon was cut, and she and Kirby set out to make The Cake Girl a name known in Tampa and beyond.

Random Acts Of Sweetness

Giving Back Is Baked In.

From surprising first responders to sending Random Acts of Sweetness across Tampa Bay and beyond, showing up for our community has always been part of who we are. It's not a campaign or a one-time thing. It's something we build into every week, because the sweetest moments are the ones we get to share with the people around us.

"Made with the neighborhood in mind."
